About this painting
This is neither an ordinary scene nor a traditional still life. The chair, the cloth, the fruit and the ears of grain become signs of transience, ripening and the ceaseless cycle of life, while the egg stands for the beginning, for birth and dormant potential. The pairing of intense, warm colors with the cool blue of the background creates a tension between life as it is lived here and now and all that is spiritual, distant and unknown. Read this way, the painting becomes a reflection on human existence — on its fragility and impermanence, but also on the possibility of renewal and a new beginning.
